Allows asset manager to visualize the spatial relationships among managed assets and other mapped features.
On the Map tab, content from the production geographic information system (GIS) and from linked IBM Maximo records can be displayed. You can use the Map tab in the Work Order Tracking, Assets, Locations, and Service Requests applications in IBM Maximo Asset Management or in one or more of the IBM Maximo Industry Solutions. Relationships between IBM Maximo entities and GIS records can be visualized by highlighting related GIS features. Visualizing assets and work on a map allows you to see their proximity to one another so that you can make more cost-effective business decisions, such as when sending crews out to do repair work. IBM Maximo Spatial Asset Management introduces new features to help you manage the spatial relationships among your assets more effectively.
Map Manager (Spatial) application
The addition of the Map Manager (Spatial) application provides a single location to configure and manage your maps. You control links to external map services, geocode services, and geometry services that exist in your geographic information system (GIS). By using the Map Manager (Spatial) application, you can add map layers to map services and enable map features to be linked with application records.
Service Address (Spatial) application
Addresses have geographical properties that make them specific to various boundaries such as work zones, service areas, and political boundaries. With geographic data that is not contiguous, it is important to separate the address data based on these defined boundaries. In large utilities with extensive service territories, there can be hundreds of thousands of addresses. By using the Service Address (Spatial) application, you can maintain a master address list and control the format of your services addresses. Spatial-enabled application records that have service addresses and that are linked to map features can be represented visually on the map.
Support of feature classes across multiple sites and multiple geographic databases
You can create IBM Maximo Asset Management objects that reference GIS feature class tables that can be defined in the following database schemas:
• In the same database schema
• In the same database but a different schema
• In a different database schema
With this new approach, it is possible to visualize and edit data of the GIS feature class using Maximo Asset Management applications. This approach uses the Maximo Asset Management infrastructure and security framework to secure feature class data for reading and writing access. This approach also enables the use of the Application Designer application and the use of conditional user interfaces to customize standard applications to show feature class table data.
Automatic creation of map features for work orders and service requests
The new Auto Create tab in the Map Manager (Spatial) application can be used to configure the automatic creation and placement of GIS features on the map. Users can then use an action to automatically create map features for work orders and service requests for one or more records at a time.
Improved positioning of work orders and service requests on the map
Work orders and service requests often have information that can be used to position their location on the map. This information can be service addresses, and assets or locations that are associated with a map feature. This available positioning information is used to automatically locate these work orders and service requests on the map.
Creation of user notes on the map
Users can use the draw tools to create notes on the map. The marked-up map extent can be saved to either a document format (PDF) or an image format (PNG).
Creation of sets of work orders and service requests
New actions can be used to create sets of work orders and service requests from the Assets application and from the Locations application. Users can also return values to these applications from the map.
Simplified linking
Linking and unlinking map features with application records has been improved by using a point-and-click interface. Details about the features that can be linked, including their link status, are displayed in a link window.
